The Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan (about 30 minutes outside of Detroit and Ann Arbor) is going to be abuzz with nerdy culture next weekend at the Motor City Comic Con. May 19, 20 and 21 we’ll have artists, actors, performers, cosplayers and more descend to Metro Detroit and all will be happy!!
Yes, I am a little bit excited to be returning this year after visiting for the first time last year. I got to meet a couple of my long time favorite actors: Star Trek The Next Generation’s Brent Spiner and Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s James Marsters. I attended several panels with people from iZombie, Z Nation, and more. There was also quite the assortment of vendors selling all manner of collectibles and several were bought and enjoyed.
This year’s show looks just as jam-packed and highly entertaining as last year. We have no less than a half dozen actors that are/have been on The Walking Dead, a stellar duo from Star Trek: Next Generation, a few wrestlers, and a special treat, the original three stars from the 80s John Hughes nerd classic Weird Science. Amy Jo Johnson, the original Pink Ranger, will be there having a special (paid) screening of her new film, The Space Between. The cosplay contest will be in full swing with cosplayer Ani-Mia in attendance all weekend. We also get some extra Detroit flavor with a special appearance on Saturday from The Worm, former Detroit Pistons player Dennis Rodman.
Tickets for the Motor City Comic Con run $25 for Friday, $40 for Saturday, $30 for Sunday or be there for the whole weekend for $75. Showtimes will be Friday from 12:30PM-7PM, Saturday 10:30AM-7PM and Sunday 10:30AM-5PM. I’ll be doing reports throughout the weekend from the convention as well as talking with my good friends Jason and April on the Inglorious Geeks podcast. Stay tuned for the entertainment and if you’re going to be in attendance, hit me up!!
